Class: III

Time: 45 Minutes

Teaching Learning Materials:  Video, PPT,  Worksheet

ICT model: SMAR Model

Previous Knowledge: Difference between fruits and vegetables.

Lesson Objective

By the end of the class, a child will be able to:

  1. identify different types of plants that provide food correctly by the end of the book,

  2. demonstrate their understanding of the different plants by sorting the types of plants in each category by the end of the activity,

  3. recognize the importance of different types of food by the end of the activities.

Lesson Introduction(5 Minutes)

  • To make the class fun from the beginning itself, I will project a video that will contain a rhyme on the importance of eating healthy foods.

  • Then, I will sing the rhyme projected.

  • To make class more fun, we can sing the rhyme together.

Lesson Development(25 Minutes)

  • Information Input (10mi)

After having the class settled and energetic, I will ask questions like, “Since you all know that we get energy from food, where do we get food from?” I will ask questions to get the answer plants or even gardens can do.

Then, finally I will  introduce the topic with a question, “How do we get food from plants?”.

And then, rather than teaching the children through books, I will teach them about the topic through PPT slides.

The PPT slides link is provided.

  • Activity 1 (10 minutes)

After the slides end, I will divide them into 4 groups.

Instruction:

  1.  You will walk out of the classroom and look around in our school garden.

  2.  In our school surroundings, I want you all to list down every plant (both edible and non-edible) under bushes and climbers.

  3. For this, I will give them 10 minutes. And tell them that I will blow a whistle as a reminder.

  • Follow up activity (5 Minutes)

  1. After everyone gets in the class and settles down, I will clap my hands for attention.

  2. Then, I will ask one of the members from each group to share their findings.

  3. I will try to take into consideration if they can describe how the plant looks, if they didn’t know the name of the plants.

  4. I can list down their findings on a chart and paste it on the wall later.

  • Extended Learning activity

  1. If some groups enter the classroom before the others, then I will ask them to identify bushes and climbers in the following picture.

Lesson Closure

First in a group I will ask them to write one interesting thing about the class, one thing that confused them and one thing that was new to them in a paper. To end the lesson, I will project the rhyme again and we will sing together in a semicircle.
