Digital Citizenship

Teacher or Digital citizen

Digital citizenship refers to the responsible and ethical use of technology and the internet. It basically involves being respectful, safe and responsible online. In a short way, it's like being a good citizen, but in a digital world.

Being a teacher and digital citizenship at a same time is actually a blessing in disguise. The role and responsibility that a teacher carries with the word 'teacher' stand out more than other job in the community. Teacher actually plays a crucial role in educating students about the principles of digital citizenship, such as safety, privacy and respectful communication. Teacher also serves as a role models for their students by demonstrating responsible and ethical behavior online, teacher actually serves as a lead example in the digital practices.

Teacher not only serves as a 'role model' but even in terms of teaching and learning, teacher plays an important part. Teacher creates a supportive and inclusive digital learning environment where students can freely express their ideas, collaborate and engage in respectful online discussions. In a way, teacher acts as a mentor who teaches her students about the long-term consequences of their online actions and helping them make informed decisions.

With a right in the digital world as a teacher comes a huge responsibilities as well. As a teacher, one should help students develop digital literacy skills, including the ability to find, evaluate, and use the information effectively and responsibly online. Teacher have a right to express their opinions and ideas online, while also respecting the rights and opinion of others. Teacher should educate students about online safety, including how to protect their personal information, avoid cyberbullying, and navigate potential risk and dangers.

As a teacher trainee and adult now, I feel that I was born in a perfect generation. I have grown up using technology,  watching the developmental happening in terms of technology and now that I am adult, judging the youth of today using the technology is far more better than our age. The way youth use the idea of technology in earning, creating memories, sharing their thoughts, inspiring people through their contents and even in terms of learning. Youth of today seems to learn more using technology than with the help of a teacher. So, I feel that technology somehow has a positive impact on the youth of today.

But with every advantage, there also come the disadvantage. Today's youth do create content and earn from it but at a same point I feel that there is arise of cyberbullying and lack of information validation. Youth do share their thoughts but somehow there is negative impact in the use of language too. Youth do learn from technology but at a same time this also leads to distraction.

To conclude, I feel that digital technology do have negative impact but looking at positive impact it is actually a good sign.  So the question should not be, "teacher or digital citizenship", rather it should be, "Teacher as a digital citizenship".
