Learning objectives:

By the end of the class, a child will be able to:

  1. differentiate skilled worker from unskilled worker with one reason why it is called as ‘skilled’ or ‘unskilled’ by the end of the class,

  2. illustrate the importance of both ‘skilled’ and ‘unskilled’ worker in the economy of the country by the end of the activity,

  3. appreciate the importance of ‘unskilled worker’ in the economy by the end of the activity.

Lesson Introduction

  • To start the class, I will ask them some common questions from the previous class. The question will be like, “Can any one of you tell me one occupation that we see in hospital? And one occupation you see in hotels?”

  • Then, I will ask if the response given by the student is right. If the answer is right, then I will ask if both jobs are the same or not. If it is different, then I will ask how it is different from each other.

Lesson Development

Lesson Input

  • Then, I will go to the topic which is, ‘skilled’ and ‘unskilled’ workers.

  • For this I will first show them a video, (https://youtu.be/ovZAbRcGLbg?feature=shared)

  • After the video, I can add or supplement with what the ‘skilled’ and ‘unskilled’ worker means. I can even add some real life examples.

  • I can ask if the previous examples cited by the students are skilled or unskilled.

Learning Activity

  • Divide the class into 6 groups and then I will provide them with a paper that will have a picture of different jobs for different groups.

  • Then I will ask them to segregate the jobs into ‘skilled’ and ‘unskilled’ one with a reason each for the table below.

Monitoring

  • After the instruction, I will make a student repeat an instruction.

  • If students need help, I will guide them.

Follow up activity

  • After the discussion, I will pick a presenter from each group to discuss their ideas and share a reason as to why they feel it falls under ‘skilled’ or ‘unskilled’.

  • I can supplement the reason if they are right, if not I will try explaining why it was not under what they thought was right.

Extended Learning Activity

  • If the students finish before the given time, they will be asked to solve the following question.

  1. What do you want to be in the future?

  2. Is it the ‘skilled’ or ‘unskilled’ wok? Why?

  3. Is the work that your parents do for living a skilled or unskilled worker? Why?

  4. Do you think unskilled worker is a important? Why?

Lesson Closure

  • I will ask them to write a sentence on how important they think unskilled worker is in our economy or community.

  • This will act as a exit ticket, and it will be individual work.
